Reformer Pilates is a dynamic Pilates based workout that incorporates movements that challenge the core and postural muscles. While Yoga does address your core it typically relies on more static poses with a focus on flexibility. Reformer pilates at Alpine Physiotherapy has a strong focus on strength, stability and functional movement.

A Reformer is a piece of specialised gym equipment that allows us to strengthen the body from top to toe, WITH spring loaded resistance. We incorporate the use of resistance bands, weights, circles and ova balls in our workouts.

During a reformer session you can expect to feel challenged, sweat and work your muscles against variable resistance from the machine. It doesn’t matter what level of fitness or ability you start with, we can alter the resistance or the exercise to suit your needs. From a Physiotherapist’s perspective we have chosen reformer pilates as our group strength focus in order to hone in on improving functional strength.

When you are taught Pilates by a Physiotherapist, you can be assured that they will be putting you through exercises to target the strength of muscles that we regularly find are the underlying factor in common injuries. Due to all the moving parts, using a reformer is also an excellent way to challenge your balance and stability.
